Background Public Rights of Way bridges are inspected on a five year cycle. Upon the inspection in 2023 some deckboards needed to be replaced. Our work team were dispatched to undertake those works and while achieving that task they were able to assess the base structure of the bridge. This was constructed using old telegraph poles, as used to be the case back in the 1990s, but it did have good concrete abutments. As part of the site redevelopment of a former steel complex in South Wales we were asked to assist in the upgrade of the road system. New signal cables needed to pass across a concrete bridge deck parallel to the road which would traditionally have been an involved and difficult task. During construction we occasionally have had items stolen from site but this is rare. Bridges are occasionally damaged superficially by vandals but this is less common than one might expect. This week we have had the entire parapet stolen from one of our bridges on a remote nature reserve.
