The ability to capture flood water that would otherwise be running down roads or entering private property is a useful tool in the armoury of the Highways Engineer. Drainage Catchpits from Blackburn & Roberts are expertly designed and professionally fitted to provide an ideal solution to this problem.
Drainage catchpits are essential in any location where the flow of water must be controlled, contained or diverted. Drainage catchpits are equally useful to separate silt from the flood water for subsequent removal. The Water Framework Directive makes this an essential consideration in the planning of new highways.
Over the last decade or so, the change in weather patterns has led to more intense rainfall, creating more surface water and flash flooding. Our range of Catchpit Grids and substructures offer a comprehensive solution to the issue as simply allowing highway run off to enter water courses in becoming increasingly problematic.
Shere Parish Council had a persistant problem with water running down a ancient trackway from the hills, causing flooding and depositing stones and debris in the village.
We designed and installed a specially designed catch pit.
The water and the materials it carries pass into the catch pit which separates the waste from the water which is then piped away.
The unit works perfectly and the clint is satisfied-the ultimate measure of success!
The Blackburn & Roberts range of catchpits covers all styles and all loadings from Pedestrian (5kn/sqm) through to HA and additional units of HB (if required). Our designs for the grid support structures can be included in a scheme or we can simply use one of our grids on one of your own designs.
Our range has a Grid for every application and all Loading Conditions from Pedestrian to HA plus units of HB. Calculations and AIPs can be supplied if required. Our Chartered Engineers can design unique projects if required. Their package would include design calc and if required and AIP to BD 2/05
We are equally happy to supply standard units for domestic premises. Please contact us for more details.

Seven Valley Railway
With there ever increasing number of visitors to the railway a new car park was built to deal with this.
Extreme rainfall caused flooding to the many important businesses that serve the railway below the new car park. The Torrent Catch pit was commissioned to deal with this problem with great effect.
With its huge depth the Torrent can deal with huge volumes of water. From light vehicles use to fully laden cement mixers the Torrent has no trouble with Loadings.
Our Torrent catch pit can be fitted with a Pedestrian friendly grate. A second Torrent catch pit was installed on exit of the new visitors car park at the Seven Trent valley Railway and station https://www.svr.co.uk/
Storm Water Weir
Stormwater Weirs can be overwhelming to a stormwater drainage system if a large area is being drained to one discharge location. It is often beneficial to teporarily detain a large amount of runoff in a pond or other detention structure by installing a Storm-Water Weir at the outley.
The 90 degree V notch Weir. The Creation of a Weir in a small urban brook can look quite stark immediately after Constructiond despite the use of natural materials given time the works soon blend into the environment.
The Weir will collect stromwater Runoff. Removable gates in the Weir will prevent big debris from entering the water course while allowing water to flow though.
